Pabha or Milroy Sanctuary in Lakhimpur District

Pabha or Milroy Sanctuary is located in Lakhimpur District of Assam. The sanctuary spreads over an area of 49 square kilometers. This sanctuary was designed to protect the rare wild water buffalo. Thus it is an important tourist destination in Assam. This article will give the detail information about the sanctuary.



 

Pabha or Milroy Sanctuary is located in Lakhimpur district of Assam, one of the seven sister's state of North East India. The sanctuary is the natural habitat of many rare and endangered species of animals and plants. Although the land area of the sanctuary is less than 50 square kilometers but it is an important reserve for the protection of rare Asiatic Water Buffalo. It is one of the popular tourist destinations in Assam.

What to see in Prabha or Milroy Sanctuary


The main aim of establishing this sanctuary is to protect the wild water buffalo. Thus the main attraction here is this species. It is really very exciting to see these wild buffalos roaming around the park. Along with these one can see some rare species of birds and other common animals.

Best time to visit Prabha or Milroy Sanctuary


The ideal time to visit the sanctuary is from the month of November to April.

Accommodation near the sanctuary


Accommodation is not a problem in Lakhimpur district as there are many hotels such as Hotel Malinin, Hotel Shyam and Hotel Anupam etc which are situated at the centre of the town. Rented cars are available from the hotel to the sanctuary.

How to reach Prabha or Milroy Sanctuary


By Air: The nearest airport to reach Lakhimpur district is Gopinath Bordoloi international airport, Guwahati. From Guwahati local taxis and buses are readily available to Lakhimpur district.
By Rail: Guwahati railhead is the nearest station to reach Lakhimpur.
Lakhimpur district is well connected by road from all parts of the state.
