About the Famous Assamese Poet Hem Barua
Hem Barua is one of the famous Assamese Poet and also a good politician of Assam. He was born on 22nd April 1915 at Tezpur of Assam. He was a brilliant student in his school and college career. He had completed his Master in Arts degree from Calcutta University of West Bengal in the year 1938. And after completion of his masters degree he joined as a English Lecture in J.B. College of Jorhat, Assam in the year 1941. But after only one year he left his service and joined in the "Quit India Movement" for which he was imprisoned in the year 1943. After getting free from prison he joined as the principal of B. Barua College of Guwahati, Assam.
As we know Hem Barua was a famous and popular poet in Assam as he has written many famous and popular poems and books. He was also the president of Assam Sahitya Sabha in the year 1972 and also awarded many prestigious awards for his written poems and books.
Political Career of Hem Barua
In the year 1948 the famous Personality of Assam Hem Barua left the Congress and joined as a new member of Socialist party. Then he was elected as the National Executive of "Praja Socialist Party". He was also elected for Lok Sabha from Guwahati for several times, such as in the year 1957, 1962 and also in the year 1967. He was also in the same post till December 1970. So he was a political leader of Assam.
On 9th April 1977 the famous Assamese poet Hem Barua left us for ever but his poems and books are now increased his value double. The famous poems and Books of Hem Barua are :
