About the Porag Festival of Assam
Porag Festival of Assam is one of the popular festival of Assam. This is a festival which is celebrated for five days. This Porag Festival is one of the harvest festival of Assam. In this festival many dancers and drummers are invited from the nearest villages. The invited dancers and drummers present their performance to entertain the audience or the peoples of Assam. This Porag Festival is mainly famous for the Assamese dance and songs. This festival is also known as Nara Singha Bihu festival of Assam.
After harvesting this Porag Festival of Assam is celebrated. In this festival the farmers seek the blessings of the Mother Earth for them and their corps. Every boy and girl of Assam take part in this famous festival of Assam. The songs of this Porag Festival of Assam is mainly based on agriculture.
This Porag Festival of Assam is organized by the young boys of Assam which is called as Daghik in the formal words. For celebrating the festival smoothly Migam Bora and Bar Puwary appointed here. There are some low officers are there to manage the famous festival of Assam. They are known as Tamuli, Deka Bora, Bar Barani, Tiri Bora etc. In old days the Miboo was the leader for managing the Porag Festival of Assam smoothly. The Morung is known as the community hall of Misings. On this festival the Morung is decorated beautifully.
At the last of the festival a grand feast is arranged. On this feast about five pigs are sacrificed. Sufficient foods and drinks are arranged for the Porag Festival of Assam. Then all the villagers with the invited villages from the nearest villages are welcomed to this grand feast. After the feast the Porag Festival of Assam ends with a prayer dance which is known as Ponu Nunam in Assamese culture.
