With a beautiful scenic beauty of Meghalaya, famous Kamakhya Temple, Poa Macc for Muslim pilgrims Kamrup district is the superb tourist destination in India. A huge space of natural forests including Pantan Reserve Forest, Kilaghat Reserve Forest and many more which are described below.

The administrative district of the State Assam, Kamrup district is situated in the western region of Assam. This distinctive ground is however shared with the present day Barpeta District and Nalbari District. These districts were belong to Kamrup before 1980.
The Kamrup District is located between 25.46 and 26.49 North Latitude and between 90.48 & 91.50 East Longitude, and bounded by Udalguri and Baska District on the North, Meghalaya on south, Goalpara District and Nalbari District on the West and the district is bounded by Darrang District and Kamrup Metropolitan District byon the East. In trhe year of 2001, the district has been divided between Kamrup District and Kamrup Metropolitan.The most natural beauty of this district attracts the visitors throughout the year.

Tourism in Kamrup District

The Brahmaputra river which divides the district into two equal portions, is easily accessible by river streamers throughout the year, and the most interesting thing is that it receives various tributaries accessible by huge local boats during the rainy seasons. The main of these includes Manas, Barnadi and Chaul Khoya on the north, and the Kulsi and Dibru on the south bank.
There is a Government forest reserve in the district that also helps in plantations where seedlings like sal, Indian teak tree, sum and nohar are reared. Among with them few experimented with caoutchouc tree.

Basically the two major tourist attraction like the famous Kamakhya Temple and Hajo receives so many pilgrim tourists from all around the country. Tourist can observe the best location of the local manufacturers involved in weaving of cotton cloths and silk for home and also very famous for their design in making of plates and brass cups.

One of the famous mystery namely Madan Kamdev is only of about 40 Kms. away from Guwahati. Moreover it is the gateway of North-East with only about 3 Kms. from Baihata Chariali on National Highway 52. This enigma is the witness of ancient Kamrup. A new look on Indian traditional art form can be interesting duo to the sculptures defining love and joy presenting endless beauty for the tourists.

Saraighat War Memorial Park was built for the preservation of the heart touching memories linked with the Saraighat Battle between Mughals and Ahoms under the great Ahom "Senapati" Lachit Barphukan in the year 1671 A.D.

Poa Macca is a place situated at Hajo, a small city near Guwahati for Muslims. As a devotional saying for the place offering prayers in the Macca the devotees gain one fourth of the spiritual enlightenment which could be gained at Mecca. So the name given suggest "poa" which means one-fourth.
