Dimapur district of Assam

Dimapur district of AssamOne of the famous district of Assam, Dimapur has achieved the status of full fledged District in December 1997. The district has two sub-divisions i.e Dimapur and Niuland, bifurcated from Kohima. Boundary of Dimapur consisting Kohima district on the south and east, Karbi Anglong district of Assam on the West, the Karbi Anglong and stretch of Golaghat District of Assam, in the west and the north. Well known as the ancient capital of 13th century Kachari rulers, Dimapur of Nagaland is an importanat tourist place in extreme North East India. The city has got its name due to the Dimasa river,which helps in irrigation in the district.Dimapur is also the gateway to Manipur and Nagaland .

A superb Climate of Dimapur giving a pleasant satisfactory to the tourists is mainly hot and humid. During summer the temperature reaching a maximum up to 36ºC , with humidity up to 93% while the winter months are quite cool and awesome. The average annual rainfall of this place is 1504.7 mm.

The ancient Kachari capital Dimapur owns many historic spots with ruins of temples, embankment and tanks. Tourist can observe the beautiful blocks of stone and brick pieces with various designs scattered here.

Chumukedima


Chumukedima is located at a distance of 14 Km from Dimapur connecting NH 39. It was served as the first headquarters of the Naga Hills District of Assam during the British rule in the period of 19th century. Tourist can observe the total area of Dimapur from this spot and other parts of famous Karbi-Anlong of Assam. The Tourist Village conducted by the Department of Tourism is at a distance of only 8 Km from the National Highway. Few waterfalls located in this area also provides a cool pleasant to the tourists.

Ruzaphema


Ruzaphema lies at just 5 km away on the Dimapur-Kohima road.This superb place is perfectly suited for leisure including its colorful bazaars and a plethora of tribal handicrafts.

Intangki Wildlife Sanctuary


The famous wildlife Sanctuary is situated at about 37 Km from Dimapur town. The Forest Wildlife Department is conducting the Sanctuary. It houses to huge species of animals including some important species of birds.

Triple Falls


The name of this Water fall suggests the structure of it. Located in Seithekima village of Dimapur district is a three tier waterfall. It is beautiful tourist destination.

North East Zone Cultural Centre


North East Zone Cultural Centre or N.E.Z.C.C. Head Office is situated at about 3 Km from the Dimapur Railway Station and 1/2 Km from the Dimapur Airport. Here Tourist can be able to see various types of cultural heritage preservation of the North-East museums.

Getting Dimapur



Airport : Dimapur has an airport, which is the only airport of Assam. It is easy accessable to the place of visitors interest.

Railhead : Dimapur has also a rail station, connecting to the rest parts of India.

Road Transport : Dimapur roads is well connected to other major cities of the north east India with NH 39.
