About Golaghat District:
One of the most historic place of Assam, Golaghat district had achieved the impreesion of a district with its headquarters situated at Golaghat on 15th of August, 1987. Covering an area of 3502 sq. kms. this district is situated at an altitude of 100 mt. above the sea level. The most famous Kaziranga National Park is placed in Golaghat district. The boundry of this district consists of Brahmaputra River in the north, Nagaland in the south, Jorhat in the east, and by Karbi Anglong and Nagaon District in the west. Dhansiri is the main river in this district which originates from Laisang peak of Nagaland.
The superb history of this place represent the theme for its name. It was actually derived by the Marwari businessmen for his shops during the 20th century. Golaghat refers to Gola means shop and Ghat means to the land reside river at the bank of Dhansiri River near the Golaghat town. Many more witness for the ago kingdom placed here including Dhansiri valley and ruins of walls, brick structures, temples and tanks. It was found to know that before 16th century this region was ruled by Kacharis.

This district has a huge area of Tea plkantation including about 65 large Tea gardens. The cosiderable advanced quality Muga silk and Agaru oil are produced here.
