Kamakhya Temple The popular pilgrimage centre, Kamakhya Temple is situated on Neelachala Parvat or Kamagiri near the city of Guwahati in Assam. This famous tourist place has great importance as one of the Shakti Peethams associated with the legend of Shiva and Daksha Yagna. Many devotees gather here with goats to offer to Shakti always. An important festival observed here is Ambubasi fertility festival. The theme of this festival says that the menstural period of the Goddess occurs during this period. During this time the Temple is closed for three days and apens in the fourth day with a grand celebration.

The well kmown festival Durga Puja is also celebrated during every Navaratri in between september to October. This place become very busy with several visitors during this festival.
