Assam State Museum is one of the largest multipurpose museums of India. It was established in 1940 as a non government organization. But since 1953, Assam government is handling and operating all the matters related with Assam State Museum.

Overview of Assam State Museum


Assam State Museum has a vast collection of historical and archaeological objects. Since the time of establishment of the museum, hard efforts are taken by the authority to show cast each and every aspect of lifestyle of Assamese people and of varied tribal people of the state.

Assam State Museum displays large collection of following things:

Note: If you want to do photography in the museum, then you have to first take the permission from concerned authority. Photography is prohibited in Museum.

Assam State Museum is located in the heart of the capital city of Assam, Guwahati. It is situated in the southern end of Dighalipukhuri Tank of Guwahati.
