Dibrugarh is also known as Tea city of Assam and is one of the major attraction for tourist. This article briefs some important tourist places in Dibrugarh district which a tourist must visit during their tour to Assam.



 

Dibrugarh is an important district of Assam as it is the largest tea exporting place not only in Assam but in India. Dibrugarh is also known as Tea city of India. Beautiful tea gardens itself is a major attraction for tourists. Apart from that there are some important places to visit. The list is given below with brief description of each tourist spots.

Tourist spots in Dibrugarh, Assam


The major tourist spots in Dibrugarh are

Koli Aai Thaan, Dibrugarh, Assam


Koi Aai Than is a holy place but there is no temples, idols to worship still has a profound influence in the religious history of Assam. Koli Aai was daughter of head priest of Dibaru Satra but having no son, Koli Aai preached ideals of her father and kept Satra alive among a tribe who were their disciples. Koli Aai was believed to have a divine power. She suddenly vanished one day but left strong religious hold in the minds of the people.

There are many other Satras (Monastry) in Dibrugarh like Dehing Satra, Dehing Namtii Satra, Dinjoy Satra, Moderkhat Satra and Garpara Satra.

Barbarua Maidam, Dibrugarh, Assam


Maidam means graveyard. Barbarua Maidam is believed to in honor two officials of the Ahom Dynasty Bura Dihinigia Barbarua and Deka Dihingia Barbarua.

Maidams of Dibrugarh are worth to see, apart from Barbarua Maidams there are some other Maidams which should be visited at Dibrugarh. These are Barbarua Maidam, Bahikhowa Dasharath Dowerah Borphukan 'maidam', Sorumechlow and Bormechlow Maidam, Lekai Chetia Maidam.

Dols or temples in Dibrugarh, Assam


Thought there are many small temples in Dibrugarh but two main temples are worth to visit, these are

Raidongia Dol - It is situated at Larua mouza near the Dihingia Barbarua road in the region of Kalakhowa and have about idol of height about 45 feet and 150 feet deep in the pond. There were 24 statues on the wall out of which 14 are still present.

Bezor dol

Jokai Botanical Garden cum Germplasm Center


Jokai Botanical Garden cum Germplasm Center is located at about 12 Km from Dibrugarh town and is worth to visit to see migratory birds, indegenous plants and wonderful elephant ride. It is spread over 1.2 hectares and is a unique place to see floral biodiversity. Medicinal plants, plants with different aroma and other unique plants is the main attraction.
