Ambibashi mela is considered as most popular festival of Assam and have immense spiritual value. During Ambubashi mela it is believed that Goddess Shakti is going through her menstrual cycle, thus the temple remains closed for three days. No auspicious works are done during these three days like worship or any other ritual activities.

After three days the doors of Kamakhya temple is opened the Goddess Shakti is is bathed to clean her and is again established by following all the religious customs.
