A new NID (National Institute of Design) Campus in Jorhat Assam is going to be opened soon in Assam which is definitely a very good news for the Assamese people. The opening of new NID in Assam will definitely mean new career opportunities in designing in Assam and the students of Assam will not need to go outside the state for pursuing higher education in designing in Assam. In fact these are the things that the Dr. Manmohan Singh, the honourable Prime Minister of India, had included in his address to the gathering at the ceremony of the foundation stone laying of the new National Institute of Design (NID), Jorhat Campus, Assam. Manmohan Singh has conveyed his pleasure to be present at this foundation stone laying ceremony of the institute. The Prime Minister also added that the NID Jorhat Assam was also the second of such institutes in the whole of the country. The first National Institute of Design (NID) of India was established in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, more or less five decades ago.

The Prime Minister said that the requirement for professionalism in design was a vision of the ex Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru who time and again had inspired the establishment of the National Institute of Design at Ahmedabad. From a toddler with a tiny campus when it began its journey in 1961, NID Ahmedabad has today become one of the most vibrant institutions in the country. The Assamese people too can hope for such a vibrant Jorhat NID campus Assam which, it is fervently believed, is not much far away.

There will be quite attractive NID Jorhat Assam courses. The institute will conducts graduate level diploma programs in eight fields of designing. Apart from that, there will also be sixteen post graduate programs in a plethora of disciplines regarding designing. The infrastructure of the institution is also going to be good. The facilities in NID Jorhat Assam campus will have Knowledge Management Centre, Information Technology Center, as well as a Design Vision Center.
