The Barak and the Brahmaputra rivers with their innumerable tributaries are the sources of water for Assam. These rivers supply water for growing different crops. These rivers also offer fishing trade. Hydroelectric power is necessary for industrial development . Water resources for hydroelectric power in Assam are quite vast but Assam is largely dependent on thermal power which is generated from coal and oil energy, hence, is expensive and coastly. Lakwa Gas Turbine, Barapani Hydel project, Karbi Langpi project, Chandrapur Thermal Power, Bongaigaon Thermal Station and Kopili Project provide power Supply in Assam.
