Malaya Goswmai debut film was ‘Agnisnaan' and won critics’ praise for the role of Menaka .It was opposite Biju Phukon famous star of Assamese movies of that time .This brilliant Assamese actress is a choice of Dr Bhabendranath Saikia ,who directed Agnisnan , for this critical role of Menaka and she stood succesfully to the expectaion .

Later Malaya Goswami acted in ‘Phiringoti’ ,directed by Jahnu Baruah , who is also a renowned film maker and director of Assam . In this movie she performed the role of a woman who fought bravely for a social cause inspite suffering a personal trauma . For this Assamese movie she has achieved the National Award for Best Actress in the year 1992.
