The world heritage site Manas National Park opened for tourists

Manas National Park, one of the famous national parks of Assam situated in Barpeta district of Assam now opened for the tourists with effective from 27 October 2013. The World Heritage Site, Manas National Park is famous for its natural beauty, wild animals, tigers, rhinos, pigmy hogs etc. Earlier Manas was closed most of the times because of various issues including insurgency. But now the situation has been improved and much better as all the issues are resolved as per Project Director Anindya Swargiary. So this time inflow of tourists including foreign tourists would increase.

Manas National Park, covering 500 sq. Km area and situated on the foothills of the Himalaya and covering Bhutan with some part of it. Before declaring Manas National Park in the year 2003,

1. declared a Forest Reserve in 1905
2. Wild Life Sanctuary in 1928
3. Tiger Project and Tiger Reserve in 1973
4. World Heritage Site by the UNESCO in 1985
5. Biosphere Reserve in 1989
