THE 27TH ABHIRUCHI SPORTS DAY ON 3RD SEPTEMBER, 2010
The 27TH ABHIRUCHI SPORTS DAY is scheduled again on 3rd September, 2010 with various programmes aiming at raising sports awareness and its role in nation building, national integration and promotion of international brotherhood.
The ABHIRUCHI SPORTS DAY, which has been observing on 3rd September every year, is the first Sports Day with humble beginning in the year 1984 in India to mark the birth day of Shri Bhugeswar Barua, the first ‘Arjuna’ and the greatest living legend in the field of sports in Assam. He is the first gold medalist in Asian Games, 1966 in 800 meter race.
With glorious celebration of last twenty six years the ABHIRUCHI Society has all set prepared to celebrate with three day long programmes in various way, such as,
a) A state level sports quiz competition
b) A sports seminar
c) A state level ‘Bharatiyam’ (Drill) competition
d) Indigenous Games Festival of Northeast
As like every year an eminent sports personality of India joins as Chief Guest, in this year also former Arjuna awardee, Olympian (also an eminent cine artiste) Ashwini Nachappa has consented to grace the central function as Chief Guest.
To start off the celebration, as usual, Mass Jogging will be held from Chandmari flyover on 3rd September, 2010 and it will be followed by various colourful events in a befitting way.
Moreover, some noteworthy activities / aims of ABHIRUCHI may be noted as below:
a) Abhiruchi Institute of Physical Education will be started its third academic year from August, 2010.
b) Abhiruchi Athletic Academy has been set up at Sarusajai, Guwahati to prepare 15 young boys (10-12 years) for full coaching in track and field and field events, for a period of 7 years, by providing free board, lodging and education and comprehensive coaching, to raise them to international standards and make them into medal winners like Arjuna Bhogeswar Baruah.
c) Short term coaching in rural areas to spread sports awareness and also sports talent.
d) Set up a Fund to support of sports equipment for needy and participation in events.
In one fine day the Abhiruchi Sports Day began as a small but because of dedicated efforts, it has now become a national event in Assam and the Northeast.
All the people are requested for wholehearted support, co-operation, and encouragement and in which everyone may become a part of this great national event on 3rd September, 2010.
